Remove hidden mailbox permissions - Exchange 2007

Encountered a issue with permissions not showing up under the send-as/full permissions in EMC but would be displayed with a 'Get-MailboxPermissions' in the EMS. This included both permission from the 'new' domain as well as the 'old' one. From my understanding this is can be a bug with the way Exchange 2007 reads them, but not necessarily I care about; just care about resolving the issue. Bug had to do with the sidhistory from a mailbox migration, which kind of matches up but in my case the sidhistory was clean.

First trying the Exchange 2003 tools could not work, it is a native 2007 set up and I did not want to extend the schema for 2003; the tools were limited in functionality otherwise. Not because of bloat it would give, but but because I have no time to set up a test environment to try it out first.

Other symptoms included when trying a 'Remove-MailboxPermission -identity usermailbox -user userpermission' it would give the error "Remove-MailboxPermission: Cannot remove ACE on object 'CN=xxxxxx, OU=xxxxxxx, OU=xxxxxx, DC=xxxxxx, DC=xxx' for account DOMAIN\USERNAME because it is not present.

The way that worked for me is:
1) In EMS type: Get-Mailbox  -resultsize unlimited | Get-MailboxPermission | where { -not ($_.User -like "NT AUTHORITY\SELF") -and ($_.IsInherited -eq $false) } |select User, Identity, @{name"AccessRights";Expression={$_.AccessRights}}

Should get an output like:

domain\userpermission                                    domain/ou/mailboxuser    {ReadPermission}

Can even add a | Export-csv c:\filename.csv to get it all in a file to make it easier to read

2) The command that worked for me was specifying the accessrights (kind of a duh moment), so like:
Remove-Mailbox -identity usermailbox -user userpermission -AccessRights permission

Just make sure you are doing the right permission, fullaccess vs readpermission, or it will fail. Also a PIA to type out if you have an unresolved SID.  Lastly, for the userpermission, I did it fully qualified, so domain\username. Should be ok if the account is on the same domain as the Exchange, but will fail if it is on another using a trust.

Expanding host drive on XenServer 5.5 with the SR on a LUN

This is using a EVA4000 with XenServer 5.5 on blades with a Windows host that needs drive expansion.

Using the EVA management tools, need to expand them as close to 2TB as possible; our current EVA has a max capacity of 2TB LUNs.

1. Reboot each host in the pool by migrating vms to other servers (xe host-evacuate command is handy for that). Once done move the hosts back.

2. You should see the unallocated space on the SR now, allocate some to the file server virtual disk for data (once again trying to get close to 2TB for each) by changing its size in the properties (dynamically)

3. In Windows go to the disk management and extend the volume you want to add the space to with the unallocated space.

Double check that the free space has now increased.

Pass-through not working on Citrix XP FR4

Know this is an old (read realllllllly old) version of Citrix, but pretty much there has been zero budget to update it and zero incentive from management no matter what is said.

Anyways for me I have a Citrix farm running XP FR4 with the published app being JDE. The servers are running Windows 2003; can't go to 2008 due to application limitation which is a whole 'nother conversation.

Anyways in getting

when trying to connect to the farm using pass-through authentication. All settings on the client are set to use pass-through, security groups are part of the allow log on through terminal services (in GPO), and security groups assigned to published apps. Although it still allows to connect if you type domain credentials on the next loginscreen.

Upon further investigation, the ssonsvr.exe service is not running when trying to run the published app. This service is used for the pass-though authentication, so it not running is a small deal.

For me the fix that finally worked was installing ICA 10.0; any client version higher like 10.2 did not work.

Next you need to double check the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order. Double check ProviderOrder and make sure PnSson is first, if not edit it so it is.

After that should be all good

XenCenter error "Unable to mount the directory specified in device configuration request"

Had this issue when moving an ISO SR from a soon to be decommissioned server to its new location. When trying to attach the SR using the new path, it would give an error "Unable to mount the directory specified in device configuration request" when using XenCenter 5.6.1 (build 38895) on Win7 x64, might be on earlier versions but do not recall it happening before.

Anyways when creating the CIFS, check off 'use different user name' and fill out an appropriate account, even it will be the same one as the current logged in user. For some reason it appears pass through does not work/not implemented.

VM Workstation 7.1.4 on kernel 2.6.39-30

Taken from http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/tumbleweed/460324-kernel-upgrade-2-6-39-30-desktop-breaks-vmware-workstation-7-1-4-64bit-2.html

*crossing fingers* hope this works on debian testing without all the bloody errors. Although from what i've read all that was required was the removal of BKL from vmnet, could never get it to work quite right

*UNTESTED* Testing later on in a VM.

Although should still be distro independent as long as kernel matches up.

Link to patch: http://www.fedoraforum.org/leigh123linux/vm/vmware2.6.39.patch

cd /usr/lib/vmware/modules/

Backup the original source files and move the official source to a temporary patch folder:

cp -R source source.bak
mv source source-original

Next unpack the origional source files:

cd source-original
tar -xvf vmblock.tar
tar -xvf vmci.tar
tar -xvf vmmon.tar
tar -xvf vmnet.tar
tar -xvf vsock.tar

Now apply the patch:

cd ..
patch -p0 /home/joe.blogs/Downloads/vmware2.6.39fixed.patch
cd source-original

Now repack the source files so they can be used by the installer:

rm *.tar
tar -cvf vmblock.tar vmblock-only
tar -cvf vmci.tar vmci-only
tar -cvf vmmon.tar vmmon-only
tar -cvf vmnet.tar vmnet-only
tar -cvf vsock.tar vsock-only

Finally put the patched source files back in the right location:

mkdir ../source
cp *.tar ../source/

You should now be able to run up VM Ware workstation - You should be prompted for your root password so the system can build the required binaries from the source code for you.

If this works, you might want to delete the temporary patch folder. As root run:

rm -R /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source-original

If you need to apply any further patches - You'll need to use you'r original source files you backed up to /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source.bak rather than your patched files in /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source

If that all sound's like too much work then it might be best to revert to 2.6.38 kernel and wait for VMware to provide an update.

Microsoft System Sweeper

Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta is a recovery tool that can help you start an infected PC and perform an offline scan to help identify and remove rootkits and other advanced malware. In addition, Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta can be used if you cannot install or start an antivirus solution on your PC, or if the installed solution can’t detect or remove malware on your PC.
Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta is not a replacement for a full antivirus solution providing ongoing protection; it is meant to be used in situations where you cannot start your PC due to a virus or other malware infection. For no-cost, real-time protection that helps guard your home or small business PCs against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software, download Microsoft Security Essentials.
